free psp game - Details build on Lego Rock Band, 'rock challenges' not for squares

It's a shame, but corporate smack talk seems to have gone out of style since the likes of Peter Moore and Ken Kutaragi left their posts. Today, free psp game, though, Sony are bringing it back.

And good for them! While some dismiss this kind of business as childish - purile, psp game, even - we don't. Bring it on! The shittier the shit-talking the better, as this industry would be a boring place without it.

Which brings us to an interview on Gamasutra, with Sony's Peter Dille, who recycles a Jack Tretton quote by saying:

Yeah, I don't want to steal [CEO] Jack [Tretton]'s quote, but he's fond of saying: "Microsoft owns the office; Sony owns the living room; and Wii owns the closet." And that's an aggressive, probably quotable line.

But the point he's trying to make is something that we find backed up in a lot of our research and focus groups: that people who are playing the Wii bring it out when friends come over and then put it back away &mdash, psp demos; that the console that stays connected to the TV is a different system.

You're damn right it's quotable. Probably grossly inaccurate, too, but then, that's not the point of these statements, is it?

Though we've known about Lego Rock Band -- more or less, that is -- since early this year, an Xbox.com listing for the game has revealed a few more tidbits to satiate our non-stop hunger for more info on the title. For starters, the game's progression has been revealed as incorporating the Lego theme with collectible Lego pieces that will allow you to, "build cooler vehicles and move to new venues." Furthermore, an extra easy (totally for babies) difficult setting has been added to the game for the ... ahem ... less than face-meltingly-advanced Rock Band-ers in our lives.

To add even more Lego flavor to the mix, the game will feature challenges that allow you to "destroy a giant robot, summon a storm, and demolish a skyscraper." One important bullet-point glaringly missing from all news on the game (and its Beatles-themed brethren, for that matter) is the ability to export the songs into Rock Band 2, a la Rock Band 1's tracks. We've put in a note to publisher MTV Games for clarification on this and will keep you updated if and when we hear more info.

Both the Wii and PS3 were released in November 2006, so the most recent tie ratio figures show each system’s performance after 29 months at retail. In examining the Xbox 360’s tie ratio after the same 29-month period, Microsoft’s box shows itself to have a significantly more impressive balance, at 7.5.

Interestingly, the console’s tie ratio rate has plateaued somewhat in the last eight months, as the figure in August 2008 was at 8.0 whereas today it has edged up to 8.3.

Sony Computer Entertainment America's senior VP of marketing, Peter Dille, has admitted that the PlayStation Portable has been hit hard by piracy - with as many as 50 million units in the marketplace potentially having been compromised.

"I'm convinced and we're convinced that piracy has taken out a big chunk of our software sales on PSP," Dille told Gamasutra. "It's been a problem that the industry has to address together; it's one that I think the industry takes very seriously, but we need to do something to address this because it's criminal what's going on, quite frankly.

"It's not good for us, but it's not good for the development community. We can look at data from BitTorrent sites from the day Resistance: Retribution goes on sale and see how many copies are being downloaded illegally, and it's frankly sickening. We are spending a lot of time talking about how we can deal with that problem."

EA says that an average of 2.2 million online games have been played each day since June, when the publisher first started releasing its 2009 EA Sports product line. This level of online play reflects an increase of more than 175 percent from the same period last year, the publisher said.

“The massive migration to online gaming has transformed the video game landscape, and this week's 500 millionth online EA Sports game highlights the radical shift that we've helped pioneer in the industry,” said Peter Moore, president of the division.

EA also provided a number of different angles to view its online volumes, stating that “4 billion minutes” of EA Sports games have been played since June, free psp game, and that &ldquo, free psp games;35 years” of online play is amassed each day.

The admission comes at a point when Sony is finally giving the handheld platform a significant boost, with a string of key titles set to hit the shelves this year, including Assassin's Creed and MotorStorm - but Dille agreed that older hardware could pose an ongoing problem for genuine software sales.

"Those numbers are correct,",free psp game; he said, referring to the 50 million units. "There's a lot of hardware out there; toothpaste is out of the tube. We're not going to get that hardware back into the toothpaste container.

500 million online games since June last year, as FIFA and NFL each clock over 2.4 million registered users

EA is flaunting the popularity of its online game services by announcing that its Sports label has clocked 500m online games since June last year.

EA says that an average of 2.2 million online games have been played each day since June, when the publisher first started releasing its 2009 EA Sports product line. This level of online play reflects an increase of more than 175 percent from the same period last year, the publisher said.

The simple equation here being that hardware sales have just as much a significant effect on tie ratios as software does. Tie ratios are, after all, total software numbers divided by total hardware.

As the PS3 failed to get many new customers, its current users had many more games to purchase over the late months of 2008. The Wii, meanwhile, is selling incredibly well despite an inordinarily low turnout of significant titles.

Either way, the Xbox 360 looks best of the three when viewed from a tie-ratio angle.

It's almost like people lost sight with the fact that, well, 'If everyone's doing it, then it can't be that bad.'

"But, it actually is bad; it's bad for the platform. Again, I'm not saying that that's a magic wand; I think that we have to make sure from a technological perspective that it's not as easy as it is to do that.",psp games;

The most recent tie ratios (number of different games per console) for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii were presented by news site Gamasutra. The figures reveal that the PS3 had recently amassed a 6.5 tie ratio in North America, whereas the Wii’s was at 6.2.

NPD Analyst Anita Frazier offers a reasonable explanation for the recent trends, stating that the Wii enjoyed a striking run of hardware sales during the second half of 2008, yet the PS3 has experienced five straight months of lower year-on-year hardware sales.

The latest financial presentation from European video game retailer Game comes complete with lifetime European sales numbers for the current crop of consoles and handhelds. Let's take a look!

The information is presented in the form of a hardware install base chart, with data provided by GfK Chart Track and Game's own internal data, tallying the lifetime sales of each major console up to January of 2009. Taking a look at the UK numbers alone, we see that Nintendo has completely dominated the United Kingdom, with the Wii's 4.9 million topping the Xbox 360's 3.2 million and the PlayStation 3's 1.9 million. As if the Wii domination weren't enough, Nintendo's DS tops the entire list with lifetime sales of 8.8 million. What about the PlayStation 2, with 10 million units sold? It had a 4 and a half year head start, so we're disqualifying it.

So how does the rest of Europe and Australia stack up?

Well, technically we can't be sure. Game's numbers only include those European countries where Game stores are located, so only France, Spain, Sweden, psp demos, Denmark, Norway, the Czech Republic, and Australia are represented, leaving out notable countries such as Germany and Italy, who will probably launch their own sales numbers aggressively across Europe at a later date.

The limited picture we get of Europe and Australia pretty much follows the same trends as the UK numbers, with the exception of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with Sony's console showing a 300,psp game,000 console lead over the 360. Combining both totals together still has the PS3 a million behind, psp games, but it's catching up.

Over on the official PlayStation Blog, Director of PlayStation Network Operations Eric Lempel made a post today announcing a new firmware update for the PSP. Version 5.50 will be available soon and will introduce a few new features to Sony's portable.

The first addition is an information board which will be displayed on the XMB. This will be similar to the PS3 scrolling ticker that provides users with updates and news relating to the Sonyverse. Of course, you'll need to be at a wireless hotspot in order to access the streaming information.

The other features are somewhat less dramatic. Lempel notes that there are memory stick improvements which allow sub-folder creation on your PRO Duo. You will also be able to run internet searches based on the title of a game directly from the XMB. Just hover over the game's icon, hit Triangle and search away.

Lastly, PSP users will have free trial access to some Trend Micro services, which includes web security technology.

Rock Band Unplugged Details

UK, April 8, 2009 - There's been a gentle trickle free psp game of information, but today it's exploded into a veritable gush – Rock Band Unplugged , the handheld iteration of Harmonix's phenomenally successful rhythm Game, is official, and EA has supplied a world of new information about the game.

Releasing simultaneously in Europe and North America on June 9, Rock Band Unplugged is being developed by Harmonix alongside Backbone Entertainment , who have previously cut their conversion chops on the likes of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and the PSP version of Everyday Shooter.

In place of peripherals, players now have direct control over guitars, drums and vocals – ensuring that the game will be a throwback to Harmonix's pre-rock fare Amplitude and Frequency.

See the trailer! Nine PSP only songs make up the 40 plus free psp game set list, with 3 Doors Down's 'Kryptonite', AFI's 'Miss Murder', Alice in Chains' 'Would?', Audioslave's 'Gasoline', Black Tide's 'Show Me the Way', Blink 182's 'What's My Age Again', Freezepop's 'Less Talk More Rokk', Jackson 5's 'ABC' and Tenacious D's 'Rock Your Socks' all exclusive to the handheld.

Further songs will be available via an in-game downloadable content store, a first for the PSP. MTV games ' Bob Picunko seems suitably excited saying "Rock Band Unplugged reinvents band gameplay while staying true to the authentic feel of the Rock Band console games. Harmonix delivers innovation with every game they develop and we are excited to continue our long-list of industry firsts with the Rock Band in-game wireless music store on the PSP system."

We'll have more on the game in the very near future, free psp game but in the meantime quench your curiosity by having a peek at the very first screens and at the PSP bundle featuring Rock Band Unplugged, the system, a 4GB memory stick, and School of Rock on UMD.

  • Be more than a hammerin' hero - Choose from a variety of jobs, including sushi chef, baseball player, and diver, to give Gen different costumes and attacks as he fights through 12 crazy stages. Along the way, make allies in battle, collect loads of items, and even unlock two more playable characters!

  • Ad-hoc multiplayer - 2 players can play together and compete for the best score on each level over ad-hoc wireless play. Why hammer alone when you can hammer with a friend?

  • - The big Tales series press conference from earlier in the week brought about a bunch of screens and details on the three new Tales games in development, Tales of Graces for Wii, Tales of Vesperia for PS3, and Tales of VS for PSP. Today, we have even more details thanks to Famitsu.

First up, VS. Joining the previously announced cast of four, the magazine confirms four more characters: Stan and Mighty from Tales of Destiny, Kratos from Tales of Symphonia, and Anise from Tales of the Abyss. There are 35 characters in all, so expect to hear roster updates regularly.

The magazine also offers up a couple of mysterious screenshots of the Game. These appear to depict fully 2D combat. The game's producer, Ryuji Odate, told the magazine that the screens are from a mode of play that's separate from the main fighting mode, but wouldn't get into specifics.

Next up, Tales of Vesperia. The big news here comes from a short interview with producer Yoshito Higuchi. Work on the PS3 version began after the release of the Xbox 360 version, said Higuchi. He also revealed one additional difference for the game: the event scenes will see different camera angles.

Finally, the Wii "mothership" entry in the series, Tales of Graces. Producer and Tales series brand manager Hideo Baba told the magazine that there are some major differences in the battle system. Previous titles could have their attacks categorized as one of standard attacks or skills. The relationship between the two will change greatly with Graces. Sadly, he wouldn't get too specific, saying only that it's possible to perform attacks that resemble skills using the button for standard attacks.

Baba also suggested that players look closely at the game's illustrations and logo for hints about the story. Feel free to do just that in our media pages as you wait for the next Tales update.

Valhalla Knights 2 Update Detailed

Just a few weeks ago, IGN put together a list of merchandise we wanted to celebrate the coming release of Patapon 2 . Apparently, Sony was listening. Upon entering the PlayStation Blog Lounge at GDC, the IGN PlayStation Team was showered Patapon  psp games plushies and Patapon figurines/key chains.

All of our dreams are coming true.

All Sony will say is that the products are "prototypes," so don't start scouring the interwebs for preorder information just yet. If that changes, we'll let you know, but until then, check out some sweet -- but dark -- pictures.

April 3, 2009 - Marvelous Entertainment's psp games announcement last week of Valhalla Knights 2: Battle Stance was just a bit on the mysterious side, with no solid details on the Game. Those details came today with a major update to the game's official site and a few new screenshots.

Battle Stance offers up some major differences to Valhalla Knights 2. Most notably, the game has a new battle system, known as the "Active Action Battle" system. As part of this system, the battle party count has been dropped from six to four, and you can now team all your characters together for a simultaneous attack.

Outside of battle, you'll find some neat little features that make the game more user friendly. Gate Crystals can now be found around the world and help you instantly transport to past regions of play. The game also has improved status screens and an  psp games updated tutorial mode.

In terms of content, there's plenty new on offer, it seems, including over 40 new items and weapons, new boss-level beasts, and a variety of quests. There's also a gallery mode which links up to parts 1 and 2 of the series and unlocks movies as you progress through those titles.

All these updates are being made available for a pseudo budget price point of 3,990 yen (most psp games in Japan cost about 1,000 yen more). We're not sure if this game has a chance of American release, so importers looking for an RPG experience on the PSP should check with their favorite sources on June 25.

UK, April 6, 2009 - Following relentless internet chatter, Konami has finally confirmed the existence of its Silent Hill reimagining, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories , scheduled to release on Wii, PS2 and PSP this autumn.

Developed by Climax UK, the team responsible for the diminutive Silent Hill: Origins on PSP, Shattered Memories shares basic plot elements with Team Silent's classic original PlayStation survival horror outing. Once more, you fill the shoes of protagonist Harry Mason as he searches the fog-shrouded - and apparently now snowy - streets of Silent Hill in a bid to locate his missing daughter Cheryl.

Bandai Namco PSP Game Makes Suggestive Use Of Milk

Eagerly awaited multi-platform title Final  psp game Fantasy XIII has been five years in the making. Five years is a long time and not cheap. The pressure must be tremendous.

Simulation RPG Queen's Blade Spiral psp game Chaos is going on sale this winter in Japan. And it's bringing its suggestive imagery with it!

Queen's Blade is originally a Lost Worlds style "combat picture book game" and has been published in Japan for the last couple of years. Queen's Blade features only female characters, and its spin-off series Queen's Gate has showcased the likes of Iroha (Samurai Shodow), Mai Shiranui (The King of Fighters) and Dizzy (Guilty Gear). Queen's Blade has also been spun off into an anime.

Pictured are cutscene images of the character's body armor been ravaged — among other things. And remember, that's only milk. We know this because we can see the milk bottle, and there's nothing wrong with milk. Nothing wrong with milk bottles, either.

Unsurprisingly the console manufacturer has been comparatively mute in both cases, denying the existence of a PSP sequel and any threat from Apple. However, having spoken to an insider source – who's not Dave Perry, but is a developer working on the new hardware – we can reveal that the new handheld will arrive before Christmas and will be far more similar to the iPhone than the current device.

Like Apple's newcomer, the PSP 2 will be a compact device with a large touchscreen. However, where Sony's machine has the edge is when the touchscreen is slid open as it reveals familiar buttons, D-pads and – praise the Lord of Handhelds – dual analogue controls.

This new format should allow for both existing hardcore console titles as well as simpler touchscreen games along the lines of those currently available in the App Store. And like the App Store, (and in the absence of UMD), the games will all be available for digital download via the PlayStation Store.

Although this hasn't been confirmed, our speculation is that Sony's initial plans for a small upgrade to a PSP 4000 model have since been accelerated by the success of the iPhone and arrival of Nintendo DSi.

"You're right there is an unusual sort of pressure on Final Fantasy XIII," the game's producer Yoshinori Kitase tells EDGE magazine. "I'd say we need this game to have ten times the success of these smaller titles."

Ten? Doesn't Kitase mean THIRTEEN TIMES  psp game THE SUCCESS?! Continuing, he adds, "But I don't think that means we've compromised in terms of the game design or creativity in any way. Indeed, the development of the game has very much followed in the tradition of the previous titles in the series, welcoming input from the full range of development staff."
